Hey folks! Well, well, well it's that time of year again, you know the one; a day for candles, or more importantly CAKE, and celebration, and happiness and presents...you know I could go on and on. While most people get excited about this day, I have been approaching it with a sense of anxiety; today I turn the big 2-5, a quarter of a century. I have been on the face of this planet for 25 years, in school for the last 22 of those years! Whoa. I am getting old:/
This birthday is really no different than any of the others I have celebrated, but in my head it seems like a big milestone. The other day, I tried having a little pity party for myself at my apartment. The voice of reason in our apartment (Ashley) pretty much told me to be grateful I was turning 25, as some people are not afforded the same privilege. True story. I should stop my gripping:) I have truly lived an amazing life so far, so instead of being depressed, here is what I am thankful for! I have a wonderful family who supports me in my all my endeavors. I have a great guy in my life who puts a smile on my face everyday. I have managed to finds some of the most amazing people to call friends everywhere I have gone; home, UNC, SCO, Europe.
I have learned. I have traveled. I have seen. I have read. I have loved. I have smiled. I have laughed. I have experienced. I have cried. I have danced. I have given. I have gotten. I have believed. I have hoped. I have forgiven. I have grown. I have lived. And y'all, I am so excited about the future!! So, friends, here is my list of 25 people/places/things that I'm looking forward to coming my way (and yours if you keep reading;).
- Blogging: I have started writing a blog (obviously). I decided that pretty soon, I am gonna be going so many directions I am not sure if I will be able to keep up with this exciting time in my life, so what better way to document it and keep my frans and family informed than to blog:)
- Valentine's Day. I have always been a big fan of Valentine's Day, and hope I can make something delicious like this:
- March 21st, 2012: I will be done with part 1 of boards! Until then, my life will be pretty much consumed by studying, and prayers for this big day are greatly appreciated:) ( I know my fellow students are probably shaking their heads at this one, but I have started to think of this exam as one more stepping stone. We have made it this far, and I know we are all gonna get there! And if you are having trouble believing that...Hakuna Matata :)
- Scope: Recently, my friend Leigha and I became the editors for our school yearbook. I feel kind of challenged since I have never actually been on yearbook staff, but hopefully it will turn out for the best. I like taking pictures so we'll see where this goes!
- One very lovely lady I know, Miss Ashley Gentrup will be celebrating her birthday March 8th, and I know we will be celebrating big time as soon as boards are over!
- Spring time in Memphis: hopefully (-) the tornadoes/crazy snow storms/flooding. Ok, maybe 1 crazy snowstorm would be ok, but definitely no flooding! I like ya Big Muddy, but not that much!
- Pioneer Woman: new cookbook this spring!
- The Hunger Games Movie: Call me a nerd, but over Christmas Break I pretty much devoured the Hunger Games Series. It was an easy read and boy was I hooked, I finished the books in record time, and I definitely recommend reading them!
- For my birthday Sam got me a painting session! I am so excited, as I was an avid painter back in the good ole days, you know before studying dominated my life. It will be good to get a little refresher, Pictures to follow!
- Carolina Basketball...'nuff said.
- Heart Of America Optometry meeting in Kansas City, MO. As most of you know, I am not the hugest fan of the state of Misery, but I am looking forward to the conference, and hope I can catch up with some old friends.
- Tom's Ballet Flats.
- Georgia on my mind: in early March, I get to travel to one of my most favorite southern cities, Atlanta for good times at SECO (another convention). Hopefully I'll get in some good shopping and good food (Bojangles) in the land of the Peaches.
- My other most favorite lady, Miss Kaila Egan (and I am not just saying that because I live with her), will be celebrating her birthday on April 7th, and since it will be after boards, I am sure everyone will be up for a party:)
- And since I'm on that birthday topic, Sam will turn the big 2-5 at the end of April. Just in time too, I hate feeling like a cradle-robber:)
- Iowa: Turns out Spring is quite a busy season for me. I get to go back to Iowa sometime this Spring for yet another optometry conference, but this time I am sure we will get to catch up with Sam's family, which is always relaxing and fun.
- Honduras: in May, a group that I am involved in on campus (Fellowship of Christian Optometrists) will be going to Honduras to minister to people and provide eye exams and glasses. Yay for traveling, and yay for helping others:)
- Annapolis, Maryland! Not only is it exciting that I will be working at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, I will be residing on the "Like Eye Care," our family boat:) Hopefully, I will also get to spend lotsa QT with my brother Josh and watch some NAVY Baseball!
- Annapolis will be a short distance from Washington, New York, and my lovely relatives in Pennsylvania, but I will also be in the same city as my childhood best friend Nina Chandra! I am looking forward to spending time with her, as the last time we were in the same town together was over 7 years ago!
- Dan the man graduates high school from my alma mater, Fayetteville Academy. I am so looking forward to finding out where he decides to go to college and what the future holds for him. Go Dan!
- North Carolina Externship: in spring 2013, Sam and I will both be on the same extern rotation back in good ole' North Carolina, and I cannot wait to show him around:) Hopefully convert him to a true blue Tarheel;)
- Jessica Elmore, OD: whether I wanna believe it or not, graduation is really just right around the corner for us! And time has just flown by here in Memphis. Yay to finally be Doctors:)
- Graduation present to myself:
I LOVE STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE!
25. And my last thing...because how else could this list really end:
